Despite the ad being deemed too provocative and banned in the U.K., FKA Twigs stood her ground, expressing in an Instagram post on Jan. 10, “I do not see the ‘stereotypical sexual object’ that they have labelled me. I see a beautiful strong woman of color whose incredible body has overcome more pain than you can imagine.”
Feeling targeted by double standards, she continued, “I am proud of my physicality and strive to meet the standards set by empowering women like Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt, and Grace Jones. Thank you to CK, Mert, and Marcus for providing me with a platform to express myself authentically.”
FKA Twigs concluded, “I will not let anyone change my narrative.”
