San Diego Comic-Con 2024 saw Hall H transform into Gotham City for the DC panel on The Penguin. Colin Farrell, present via Zoom, joined the team before the official trailer for The Penguin series was launched. Director Matt Reeves, along with Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, and makeup designer Mike Marino, took the stage.

The Penguin takes over Hall H… and Gotham City

The new trailer showcases Farrell’s Penguin seizing control of Gotham’s streets, smashing vehicles and running narcotics operations from his club, Iceberg Lounge.

Colin Farrell portrays Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, also known as Penguin, the former lieutenant of Gotham’s late crime boss Carmine Falcone.

Cristin Milioti, known from How I Met Your Mother, plays Sofia Falcone, who escapes Arkham Asylum to challenge Penguin for control of Gotham. Sofia is Carmine Falcone’s daughter.

During the SDCC panel, Farrell praised Mike Marino’s prosthetic work that helped him transform into The Penguin character. Marino revealed that the character was inspired by Harvey Weinstein and injured birds.

According to Variety, Marino commended Farrell, stating, “I always thought he had the best face for makeup. He’s got a small nose. When you do makeup, you add to a person’s face. You can’t take away. He’s got the best canvas.”

Lauren LeFranc is the showrunner and creator of the upcoming crime fantasy drama series.

All about The Penguin

The Penguin will debut on HBO on September 19th with eight episodes. It follows Oz Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, as he rises to become the kingpin of Gotham City’s underworld, one week after the events of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. The use of prosthetics in Farrell’s portrayal for The Batman was praised by critics and fans.

In The Batman (2022), the Riddler’s plan succeeds, destroying Gotham’s seawall and causing flooding. Batman defeats the Riddler, but Penguin escapes as Carmine Falcone is murdered, leaving a power vacuum in Gotham’s underworld.

The Penguin cast includes Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, James Madio, Scott Cohen, and more.
