Insider Reveals: Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar’s Potential Film Departure – Industry Expert Daggubati Suresh Babu Discusses Tamil Cinema’s Future
Film exhibitors of India were interviewed exclusively by Pinkvilla where they discussed the current state of cinema and its future.
During the interview, prominent exhibitor Daggubati Suresh Babu was questioned about his thoughts on the future of Tamil cinema, particularly with the focus of Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar shifting to other careers, and the constraints faced by Rajinikanth in taking on multiple projects.
In response, Suresh Babu stated, “Whenever a superstar departs for any reason, we may anticipate a void but the audience has the ability to create the next superstar. If SP Balasubrahmanyam passes away, what will happen to music…if someone passes away, what will happen, nothing will happen.”
“Just like how NT Rama Rao left, another emerged. So, the Tamil cinema audience will elevate a local star to superstardom, or a star from another language will become a superstar, or a pan-Indian film will elevate someone to superstardom. It is indeed sad if they leave simultaneously but we need not overly worry about it,” added the exhibitor.
Furthermore, referring to the Telugu film industry, he mentioned, “Telugu industry has managed to keep many heroes relevant. We have the top six, followed by the next six. Many are capable of achieving the 100 crore mark and I am confident the same will happen in Chennai as well.”

The exhibitor’s views come at a time when Tamil superstars like Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar are looking to move away from films. Vijay is preparing to enter politics for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections in 2026, while Ajith Kumar is resuming his passion for racing. The latter has even announced the formation of his own racing team.
Additionally, apart from these actors, Superstar Rajinikanth continues to captivate audiences at the box office consistently. However, he has limitations in taking on multiple projects and typically appears in only one film per year.
