Ewan McGregor to be Honored at Newport Beach Film Festival with Live Podcast
Ewan McGregor, the seasoned Scottish actor who recently received critical acclaim for his performance in the Paramount+ limited series A Gentleman in Moscow, for which he also served as an executive producer, has been selected for the Newport Beach Film Festival’s TV Performance of the Year Award.
McGregor, aged 53, will be honored at an event starting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 5:30pm PT at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach. He will engage in a career-retrospective conversation with an interviewer, which will be recorded for The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. Following this, he will receive his award at the festival.
“The Newport Beach Film Festival is thrilled to present this award to Ewan McGregor for his remarkable career,” said Gregg Schwenk, CEO and executive director of NBFF. “He is a true talent who has made a significant impact not only on his audiences, but also on the industry as a whole.”
McGregor gained recognition with roles in films such as Trainspotting (1995) and as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005). He has also starred in various acclaimed films and TV shows, winning awards for his work in projects like Halston and Fargo.
A Gentleman in Moscow, which aired from March 29 to May 17, is an adaptation of Amor Towles’ novel from 2016. McGregor portrays Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, an aristocrat sentenced to house arrest in a hotel room following the Russian Revolution.
The 25th NBFF will take place from October 17-24, 2024. Peter Sarsgaard will be honored with the Film Performance of the Year Award for his role in September 5, and will also participate in a live recording of the Awards Chatter podcast on Oct. 23.
Other notable figures to be honored at the festival include Nicolas Cage (Icon Award), Joan Chen (Career Achievement Award), Colman Domingo (Maverick Award), and many more esteemed individuals in the entertainment industry.
