John Mulaney and Olivia tied the knot over the weekend in New York – per People after having been dating since 2021. Since their initial link the two welcomed their only child, Malcolm, who just so happened to be in attendance at his parents’ intimate wedding. His parents have been very public about his journey to growing up especially on social media, and here’s what Hollywoodlife knows about him:
Birthdate
Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney was born on November 24, 2021. He is the first and only child from both partners. His 41-year-old father revealed a month later the announcement on Instagram, noting ‘Meet Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney. He has his whole life ahead of him. He hasn’t even tried seltzer yet. I’m very in love with him and his whole deal. Happy Holidays.” Since his birth, the 44-year-old mom and former SNL star have loved watching him grow and documenting it, including when they shared a video on social media where they disclosed his first word was “Daddy/Dada” and singing the “ABCs” song.
Malcolm Was Named After His Great Uncle
As per the X-Men: Apocalypse star revealed her son’s middle name actually came from one of her “favorite” uncle’s called, Vinh Hiệp. The actress wrote on her Instagram stories, “Malcolm got to meet his great uncle. His middle name is named after him💛.
She continued, “This is my Cau Ba. He was hands down my favorite. Whenever we got a new belt in Taekwondo he would buy us banana splits and tell us not to tell our mom.”

The now 2-year-old has done what most have not been able to experience at his age. Aside from the beach and park, Malcolm has been seen accompanying his parents to their jobs. In Febraury 2022 he attended SNL’s episode in which John hosted, Olivia shared a snap that wrote, “Malcolm visited SNL Thursday afternoon. Here he is looking like your uncle being carried out of a wedding because he went too hard.”
Inspiration to both John and Olivia
Despite it being a hard year for Olivia with her breast cancer diagosis last year. She has been vocal about how her reason to put on a brave face is for her son. Olivia previously told Good Morning America, “If I didn’t make it, I wanted my son when he got older to know that I fought to be here…That I tried my best.” In addition, John who previously dealt with an addiction recalled the moment his son was born and stated, “‘That’s my son’.”
