Elle Macpherson Opens Up About Her “Daunting” Private Struggle With Breast Cancer
Choosing a less traditional path brought its own challenges, especially in dealing with friends and family members who were not in agreement with her decision.
“People thought I was crazy,” Elle, who has sons Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21, with her ex Arki Busson, recalls. “Cy believed that chemotherapy was dangerous and would lead to death. He didn’t want me to undergo it because he saw it as a death sentence. Flynn, on the other hand, was more conventional and didn’t approve of my choice. Despite his disagreement, he supported me because he loves me unconditionally. Both of my children showed different forms of support, but I could sense their fear.”
Elle mentions that her ex, Arki, was “very supportive” even though he didn’t agree with her holistic approach.
“He expressed his pride in my courage,” she adds. “Although he was fearful of my decision to forgo conventional medication, he respected my choice. While he saw it as extreme, I viewed chemotherapy and surgery as the extreme options.”
