Edie Falco Gets Emotional After Reading Script for Sopranos Finale; Opens Up About Feeling Embarrassed
Edie Falco, known for her role as Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos, observed tension among the crew and decided to remove her poster of Madonna with the child Jesus, which was seen as controversial, from the wall. She placed it on the table while reading the script for the fourth season of Made in America, which only added to her distress.
“I was out of control. I was embarrassed,” Falco recalled trying to read the script with her real brother in public. “I really couldn’t stop crying, it was ridiculous,” the 60-year-old, four-time Emmy winner, said. “It was a moment that I knew would never happen again to me, or anyone else.”
As the final episode approached, Falco revealed that the intensity of knowing it was the end not just for the series, but also for most of the cast and crew, made her incredibly emotional. Her words reflect the impact of the show, The Sopranos, on her life and the relationships she formed with the characters and the theme until the show wrapped up.

Falco also discussed her on-screen chemistry with James Gandolfini, who portrayed Tony Soprano, describing it as natural due to their shared Italian backgrounds and familiarity with the show’s themes. She likened their relationship on set to a marriage and admitted that she had never been as close to married life in reality.
During her eight-year tenure on The Sopranos, from 1999 to 2007, Falco portrayed Carmela Soprano with such success that she garnered three Emmys and two Golden Globes. Her performance not only solidified her as a TV icon but also showcased her depth as an actor in exploring the character’s evolution over the series.
Edie Falco’s children haven’t seen The Sopranos
Despite her fond memories of The Sopranos, Falco revealed in a March interview with PEOPLE that her children, Anderson and Macy, have never watched the show.
“They’re so over it,” she remarked. “They’ve never seen it. Either of them.”
While Falco hopes that her kids might watch the show one day and appreciate it, she acknowledged that, at present, they have no interest in seeing her acclaimed performance as Carmela Soprano.
It’s not uncommon for the children of famous actors to lack enthusiasm for imitating their parents, even if the show is socially significant or highly acclaimed.
