While Wofford told NBC News that Chigvintsev was arrested in Yountville, Calif, he was unable to disclose the exact location due to a request for privacy from the alleged victim.
As per the request, Wofford mentioned that the Sheriff is withholding information such as the alleged victim’s name, gender, age, and relationship to Chigvintsev. Nonetheless, Wofford provided some insight into the arrest.
He stated, “When someone is charged with felony domestic violence, it typically indicates visible injuries or credible eyewitnesses. Our deputies made the decision to arrest him on felony charges based on this information,” as reported by E! News.
Wofford added, “The circumstances may change with additional evidence that surfaces, but at the time of arrest, the deputies deemed it necessary to pursue felony charges rather than misdemeanors.”
He also shed light on why victims might opt to keep certain details confidential in such incidents.
“Some victims may choose not to disclose all information when the suspect is apprehended,” Wofford explained. “They might feel ashamed, threatened, or concerned about the impact on their family. It’s crucial for us to give victims the time and support they need to understand that we are here to assist them.”
