After Vasan’s defense of Jigra’s failure, internet users criticized him for being ‘arrogant’ and unwilling to accept the movie’s lackluster performance. Once his account was deleted, some users came to Bala’s defense, arguing that he should not be solely held accountable for the film’s failure.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vasan admitted that the aftermath of the movie’s release has been challenging for him. He recognized the difficulties of releasing his films and expressed uncertainty about how to navigate the current situation. The pressure of mainstream cinema to perform well at the box office weighed heavily on him.
“The surprise was the failure because you obviously don’t set out to fail. Also, this was not a very stubborn, I-will-only-deliver-it-this-way kind of film. I thought it was a pretty accessible, straight-arrow film, and the emotions were universal,” he explained, expressing disappointment in producers Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt.
Starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, Jigra was a prison-break story depicting a sister’s journey to save her brother imprisoned in a foreign land. The film also featured Manoj Pahwa in a crucial role.
