The Long Game actor Dennis Quaid expressed his desire to create a sequel to The Parent Trap, but doubts it will happen due to the passing of Natasha Richardson. Speaking at the premiere of his new film Reagan, Quaid mentioned that it’s difficult to imagine a sequel without Richardson, who passed away in 2009, and still feels the sadness of her loss.
In the 1998 The Parent Trap remake, Quaid and Richardson portrayed the parents of Lindsay Lohan’s characters. Quaid commended Lohan, now 38, as fantastic and admired her growth as a person.
Quaid also discussed the potential storyline for a sequel, where his character might pass down a vineyard to his daughters, but remains uncertain if it will come to fruition. Despite this, Quaid believes that the 1998 film has left a lasting legacy.
"The Parent Trap was a significant milestone in my career," Quaid shared. "It holds a special place in my heart and is a beautiful movie that I believe will stand the test of time for generations to come."
Quaid spoke about how Richardson’s tragic accident deeply affected him and many others. He admired her marriage to Liam Neeson and her positive presence on set, which left a lasting impact on those around her.
Reflecting on The Parent Trap, Quaid reminisced about its 20th anniversary, feeling like just yesterday. He also mentioned the original 1961 film and how the 1998 remake became a beloved choice for kids, often serving as a babysitter for parents. Quaid humorously added that he used to babysit many kids while their parents were occupied.
