Abby Lee Miller from Dance Moms: Updates on Her Health and Current Whereabouts
Abby Lee Miller, the star choreographer, rose to fame as the face of the reality series Dance Moms on Lifetime. The show launched the careers of popular dancers like Maddie Ziegler, JoJo Siwa, and Kendall Vertes during its eight seasons at the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC).
However, Miller’s career took a hit when she was convicted of bank fraud in 2017, leading to a year in prison and a subsequent cancer diagnosis that left her wheelchair-bound. Her departure from the show was met with accusations of toxic behavior from former students such as Ziegler and Kalani Hilliker. She now teaches dance to children in her LA studio.
After her release from prison and recovery from cancer, Miller decided to start fresh by opening the Abby Lee Dance Studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Dance Moms was primarily filmed. In January 2023, she announced that she had sold the studio, which would be transformed into a daycare center.
Miller hinted at a new reality TV series that would be a dramatic version of Dance Moms, featuring older students and their mothers. She also launched a podcast called Leave It On The Dance Floor in June 2023, discussing Dance Moms and other dance reality shows.
In October 2023, Miller appeared as a contestant on the E! reality show House of Villains to win a cash prize and the title of America’s Ultimate Supervillain. She continues to teach dance at a new ALDC studio in Los Angeles, providing choreography training for students and coaching virtually.
Despite her health struggles and challenges, Abby Lee Miller is forging a new path for herself beyond Dance Moms, focusing on her career as a choreographer and dance teacher. She did not participate in the Dance Moms: The Reunion special and has distanced herself from her former students.
In her last season on Dance Moms, Miller continued to choreograph despite physical limitations that affected her mobility. She remains determined to overcome the odds and pursue her passion for dance, despite the obstacles in her way.
