Father-to-be Ali Fazal reflects on his journey to playing Joy Lobo in Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots: ‘I walked out after the audition…’.
Ali Fazal, known for his role as Guddu Pandit, first made his mark in Bollywood as Joy Lobo in the movie 3 Idiots. In a recent conversation, Fazal shared how he landed this debut role. He mentioned receiving a call from Rajkumar Hirani’s office for an audition while performing in a play in Mumbai. Fazal read the part, and after watching it, Rajkumar Hirani confirmed him for the role, citing that he may have seen one of Fazal’s plays before. Fazal also recalled recording the song “Give Me Some Sunshine” on a train after the audition, which solidified his realization of the impact of cinema.
During the same podcast, Fazal reminisced about his days before acting where he engaged in odd jobs, including selling burgers for a profit by delivering them to people’s homes. On the professional front, Fazal’s latest project is the third season of Mirzapur, where he will reprise his role as Guddu Pandit. The show, set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 5, 2024, features a stellar cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Vijay Varma, and Isha Talwar.
