Claire Denis praises Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman in Matt Reeves’ film: ‘I admire the way he developed the character’
Robert Pattinson portrayed the iconic DC superhero character Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, in the film The Batman directed by Matt Reeves. His performance was exceptional and captivated fans with his unique interpretation.
Recently, director Claire Denis praised his portrayal of the Caped Crusader and shared her thoughts on how he skillfully developed the character. In an interview with Screen Slate, Denis was asked if she would consider directing a Batman movie. Instead of answering the question, the 78-year-old director commended Pattinson’s performance, with whom she previously collaborated on the 2018 sci-fi horror film High Life.

She remarked, “I watched The Batman [2022] because Robert Pattinson is a friend. Of course, it’s a lot, a lot of post-production. A crew of 300.” The director of White Material elaborated, “The work inside, the way Robert thinks about Batman—I like the way he constructed his Batman.”
However, she noted that the film’s extensive special effects, crowd scenes, and post-production work make it feel like two movies in one, stating, “There’s the Batman story, which is very intimate and delicate, and then the rest.” Denis humorously added, “I would do a Batman if I could do it without the rest.”

While Robert Pattinson rose to fame with his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise movies, he garnered a new following when he took on the role of Batman in Reeves’ superhero project. However, stepping into the role, previously played by stars like Ben Affleck, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Michael Keaton, was not an easy feat, as he confessed to GQ magazine that this was the “hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
The Batman is now available for streaming on Netflix and features a talented cast including Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard, and others.
