Preview of Chicago Med Season 10 Promises Exciting Returns and New Additions
Season 10 of Chicago Med promises significant changes as the show embarks on its next chapter under new leadership. Allen MacDonald, who has taken over from longtime showrunners Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider, is hinting at exciting developments, including the return of fan-favorite characters and the introduction of new ones. In an interview with Variety, MacDonald shared his vision for the upcoming season.
Allen MacDonald is stepping into the role of showrunner for the 10th season of Chicago Med, succeeding Frolov and Schneider, who led the show for years. MacDonald is no stranger to the One Chicago universe and is enthusiastic about taking on this new responsibility.
“I fell in love with the world and the characters that had been created,” MacDonald said. “It was a sandbox that I was very excited to play in.” He acknowledged the challenges of taking over an established series but is confident in the show’s direction for this milestone season.
One of the major changes in Season 10 will be the introduction of two new characters: Dr. Caitlin Lenox and Dr. John Frost. These new faces are expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the hospital.
Dr. Caitlin Lenox, portrayed by Sarah Ramos, is described as a no-nonsense character. “Lenox is not warm and fuzzy. She is efficient and focused on getting things done within budget,” MacDonald explained. While many perceive her as cold, she actually approaches situations from a broader perspective.
Dr. John Frost, played by Darren Barnet, is a charming new doctor who connects with people through his charisma and appealing personality. MacDonald noted that Frost is both lovely and attractive and uses these qualities to help his patients.
However, not everyone is drawn to Frost’s charm. MacDonald mentioned that Maggie Lockwood, portrayed by Marlyne Barrett, sees through his facade and quickly puts him in his place.
In addition to the new characters, MacDonald teased the return of familiar faces in Season 10. While he didn’t reveal specific names, he mentioned that former stars of the show may make guest appearances during the season.
“One thing I love about the One Chicago world is that even if a character leaves the show, they are still part of the universe. I enjoy checking in with them,” MacDonald stated. This statement has sparked speculation among fans about which actors may return, building anticipation for the upcoming episodes.
Several key cast members have departed Chicago Med in recent years, including Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya DaCosta, Torrey DeVitto, and Brian Tee, all of whom were part of the show since the beginning.
For example, Tee has taken on new projects such as voicing the lead in Get Jiro!, an animated adaptation of Anthony Bourdain’s graphic novel series, and appearing in the third season of Reacher.
Chicago Med premiered in 2015 as part of Dick Wolf’s One Chicago series, following Chicago Fire (2012) and Chicago P.D. (2014). Chicago Justice briefly joined the lineup in 2017 but was canceled after one season.
