“I have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world, she’s amazing,” he told the U.K.’s Rollacoaster magazine. “She’s been my dream girl since I was younger. She’s incredible.”
However, by the summer following, their short-lived romance had come to an end.
“Cheryl and I have decided to go our separate ways,” he announced in a message on X on July 1, 2018. “It was a difficult decision for us. We still love each other as a family. Bear is our priority and we ask for privacy as we navigate this together.”
Cole shared a similar message in response.
Addressing rumors about her mother’s role in their split, Cole stated, “She has nothing to do with any of this. I am a mature woman who can handle my own life. She is a kind woman who should not be involved in something that doesn’t concern her.”
Their troubles were typical relationship challenges, according to Payne. “We have our difficulties,” he admitted to ES magazine months earlier. “I won’t pretend that everything is perfect, because every relationship has its ups and downs.”
