An Update on the American Pie Cast: Where Are They Now?
Levy, one of the few adults in the film, made the most of his limited screen time, stealing every scene as Jim’s dad.
Initially hesitant about the role, as it was also offered to Bill Murray, Levy found the script too vulgar. He said, “When I first read the script, it scared me. I said, ‘No, I can’t do this movie.'” However, after meeting with the directors and realizing their mature handling of the subject matter, he signed on and was encouraged to improvise, something he enjoyed as a Second City Sketch Comedy alum.
“All the scenes in American Pie came out of an improvisation,” Levy shared with Huffington Post. “I wanted the character to be a real dad, like a real, corny dad who cares about their children. I wanted to be the kind of parent that the kids didn’t want to hang with… [the original version] was a little creepy. So I made him more square.”
As one of the original stars of the franchise, Levy appeared in all the films and later starred alongside his son, Dan Levy, on the successful TV series Schitt’s Creek. The father-son duo swept the 2020 Emmys with their creation. Next up, he’ll be seen in season four of Only Murders in the Building.
