Opening Ceremony to Feature Performance by Céline Dion
Dion recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with a “very rare” progressive neurological disorder known as stiff-person syndrome, a condition that many people may not have been familiar with before.
In an Instagram video, Dion expressed, “I’ve always been transparent about my life. It was hard for me to come forward with this, but I am ready now. I have been facing health challenges for a while, and it has been a tough journey for me to address and discuss everything I have been going through.”
Dion described how muscle spasms have drastically impacted her daily life, affecting her ability to walk at times. Sadly, this means she will not be able to resume her planned tour.
She shared, “I am diligently working with my sports medicine therapist every day to regain my strength and performance abilities. However, I must admit, it has been a challenging process.”
According to the National Institutes of Health, symptoms of stiff-person syndrome include stiffness in the muscles of the torso, arms, and legs, as well as heightened sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional stress, all of which can trigger muscle spasms.
