Céline Dion Steps Out on the Red Carpet Alongside Son Rene-Charles in Rare Appearance
In an Instagram video, Dion revealed that she had been diagnosed with a “very rare” progressive neurological disorder known as stiff-person syndrome, a condition that many people were likely hearing about for the first time.
Despite being hesitant to speak out about her health struggles before, Dion stated, “As you know, I’ve always been an open book. I’ve been dealing with health issues for a long time, and it has been challenging for me to face these obstacles and share my experiences.”
The muscle spasms affecting her daily life made it difficult for her to walk at times, ultimately leading to her decision to cancel her upcoming tour plans.
Working diligently with her sports medicine therapist every day, Dion is focused on rebuilding her strength and ability to perform, although she acknowledged that it has been a tough journey.
As outlined by the National Institutes of Health, symptoms of stiff-person syndrome include stiffness in the torso, arms, and legs, heightened sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress, all of which can trigger muscle spasms.
