Ananya Panday Calls Her Show “Call Me Bae” a Blend of Schitt’s Creek, Clueless, Aisha, Nancy Drew: Get the Details
Ananya Panday unveiled the trailer of her upcoming web series, Call Me Bae, just a few hours ago. During the special event, the actress disclosed that her show draws inspiration from various women-led comedy films, such as Alicia Silverstone’s Clueless and Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha. She also shared details about her experience working on a long-format series.
Today, on August 20, Ananya Panday premiered the trailer of her debut OTT series, Call Me Bae, in Mumbai. In the show, she will be portraying the role of Bae, also known as Bella Chaudhary, who comes from a privileged background but faces unexpected challenges after being downgraded to middle class.
Discussing her comedy-drama series, the actress mentioned that it is a blend of the “chick-flick movies” she enjoyed watching while growing up. She expressed her admiration for iconic characters like Poo and shared her excitement about the show’s mix of influences from Schitt’s Creek, Clueless, Aisha, and Nancy Drew.
Ananya highlighted the rarity of “light, young adult, happy, and fun” shows and emphasized that while her character embodies these traits, she is also distinct and independent. She described her role in Call Me Bae as both fun and challenging in her acting career.
She explained that working on a long-format series was a new experience for her, providing more opportunities to develop her character’s backstory compared to films with limited scenes. Ananya praised the show’s team and crew for the well-written dialogues and expressed enjoyment while working on the project.
Call Me Bae features a star-studded cast including Vir Das, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkkaan Jaferi, and more. Produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under Dharmatic Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the show is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 6, 2024.
