Why Did Robert Downey Jr Reject Roles in Deadpool & Wolverine After Reading His Part in the Script?
Deadpool & Wolverine have revived the classic Marvel charm, with audiences raving about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s on-screen chemistry. One of the highlights of the movie has been the cameo appearances of veteran actors reprising their iconic roles. The film also marked the return of Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth to the franchise.
Robert Downey Jr., another Marvel hero, was initially supposed to make an appearance in the movie. In an interview with IndieWire, the scriptwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese disclosed that they had written a draft featuring a role for Downey Jr. The writers had planned to bring back the six main Avengers for the film.
However, the Oscar-winning actor declined the role as Marvel had different plans for his reintroduction to the franchise. Reese mentioned that Ryan Reynolds had written a scene with Downey Jr. present, hoping to convince him. Reynolds also wanted Jon Favreau in the scene, as they had great chemistry together.
