Bowen Yang Responds to Accusations of Mocking Chappell Roan on SNL
Bowen Yang is rejecting claims that he was disrespecting Chappell Roan.
The Saturday Night Live actor clarified the situation surrounding his viral sketch from the season 50 premiere on Sept. 28, where he portrayed baby hippo Moo Deng and referenced the singer “Hot To Go.”
In response to an article accusing him of “mocking” Chappell, Bowen took to social media to address the issue.
“Oh geez. ‘Mocks’ ??? If my personal stance and the piece aren’t absolutely clear in terms of supporting her then there it is I guess,” he posted on Instagram on Sept. 29 along with a screenshot of the article. “I guess everything she has ever asked for has been reasonable and even then we can connect it to another story about boundaries or whatever. Needing the hose rn…”
Bowen made an appearance on the Sept. 28 episode of the show alongside Weekend Update hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che, portraying the adorable baby hippo Moo Deng. Using Chappell’s famous lines, Moo Deng emphasized the importance of respecting boundaries while she’s working.
