Billy Porter Skips 2024 Met Gala for a Significant Purpose
Billy Porter will not be attending the Met Gala this year on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The actor from Cinderella shared that he will be skipping the 2024 Met Gala in order to mourn the passing of his mother, who passed away in February.
“I just lost my mom,” Billy exclusively told E! News on the red carpet for the TIME100 Gala on April 25. “I need to take care of myself, so that’s what I’m doing. And sometimes that means skipping the party.”
Jokingly saying that “daddy’s tired,” he added, “I can’t do everything.” (For more with Billy, watch E! News tonight, April 25, at 11 p.m.)
Although the Pose alum may not be present at fashion’s biggest night, he has been dedicated to promoting his latest album, Black Mona Lisa, released in 2023.
“I am currently on the tour circuit,” Billy explained, “attending many prides and music festivals, and going on tour in the U.K. So, I am slowly working on expanding my audience in that aspect.”
