Billy Crudup Wins Second Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama

Billy Crudup received his second Emmy award on Sunday night for his role in Apple TV+’s The Morning Show.

The 56-year-old actor won the best supporting actor in a drama series award at the 2024 Emmys and started his speech by giving credit to his wife, fellow Emmy nominee Naomi Watts. Crudup said, “I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there.”

He continued, “My wife, who is an immigrant and also gave an outstanding performance for which she’s nominated, and she starts businesses too, so it’s nice to be by her side.” Watts is nominated for best actress in a limited series or anthology for her role in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Answering a question from the press about competing with Watts, Crudup humorously replied, “We’re quite competitive but at things like Scrabble.”

Crudup also expressed his gratitude to the writers and educators who allowed him to perform beyond his comfort zone. He thanked the behind-the-scenes crew and shared a heartfelt message with his co-workers, stating, “This process has been incredible for me. I hope everybody else who is involved knows how much it means to me.”

Crudup mentioned that there are no similarities between him and his character, saying, “There’s no Billy in there. Billy, as you can see, is sweaty and stumbles over words.”

This win at the 2024 Emmys is Crudup’s second for his work on The Morning Show. He previously won in 2020.

The 76th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, are airing live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles from 5-8 p.m. PT/8-11 p.m. ET. Check out all the red carpet arrivals.
