Director Anees Bazmee of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 explains his decision not to go down the psychological thriller path like the first installment: ‘Changing the genre would be dishonest…’
Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has been a trending topic on social media. The film, which is the third installment in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, stars Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, and Madhuri Dixit. In a recent interview, the film’s director, Anees Bazmee, acknowledged the greatness of the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa, praising Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar for their commendable work in it. This led him to approach the next two installments as horror-comedy rather than a psychological thriller, as seen in the first one.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Anees Bazmee shared insights into his decision-making process for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3. Many fans were curious as to why he opted for a horror-comedy instead of sticking to the psychological thriller genre that was acclaimed in the initial installment.
Addressing this query, Bazmee explained that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 follows the horror-comedy pattern established in the second film for a specific reason. He expressed his admiration for the psychological thriller aspect of the first film, crediting Priyadarshan and Akshay for setting a high standard that he didn’t want to interfere with.
He stated, “The first film was beautifully crafted by Priayadarshan ji, and Akshay had delivered an amazing performance. So, I decided to take a different approach instead of revisiting the psychological thriller genre.” As the script evolved, it became evident that the core elements they wanted to explore leaned more towards horror, prompting the genre shift.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is scheduled for release on November 1, 2024, and will go head-to-head with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. The trailer launch today has generated high anticipation among fans.
