Benj Pasek and Justin Paul Achieve EGOT Status with Emmy Win for “Only Murders” Song

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have recently achieved EGOT status by winning the Emmy for best original music and lyrics for their Only Murders in the Building composition, “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” alongside Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The duo won the trophy during the second night of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys, beating out other nominees like Sara Bareilles and Hans Zimmer. They have previously won an Oscar, Grammy, and Tony for their work in musical theater and film.

Pasek and Paul were also nominated for a best original music and lyrics Emmy in 2018. The “Pickwick Triplets” song is featured in the Broadway-set third season of Only Murders and is performed by star Steve Martin.

The duo collaborated with the Only Murders writing team to create the series’ musical elements, including “Death Rattle Dazzle.” They spoke about their songwriting process for the show in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

With this win, Pasek and Paul join the elite club of EGOT recipients and are some of the youngest to ever achieve this status. They are the second team to EGOT, following Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
