Dave Portnoy, the Founder of Barstool Sports, Saved at Sea Due to Boat Troubles
Dave Portnoy found himself in a dire situation—stranded without a paddle, literally.
The founder of Barstool Sports revealed that he was recently adrift at sea off the coast of Massachusetts when his new boat lost power.
“Your boys almost lost Captain Dave today,” Dave shared in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on July 15. He added that he “almost became lost to the ocean, mother ocean.”
According to the 47-year-old, he had intended to show his new boat to his mother, but disconnected it from the buoys before turning it on to ensure it was working. This resulted in a situation with no power, no radio, no anchor, and heavy winds, leaving Captain Dave lost at sea.
Feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what to do, Dave focused on avoiding a collision. He tried to signal for help with a distress flare, but unfortunately received no response. Fortunately, someone eventually appeared to offer assistance before things took a turn for the worse.
