BAFTA TV Awards Introduce Three Additional Categories for Children’s Television
BAFTA announced the addition of three new categories to its annual Television Awards and TV Craft Awards to highlight children’s and family programming. These new categories aim to recognize the talented individuals who contribute to the genre both on and off screen, from beloved characters to the educational theories behind high-quality children’s content.
The new awards categories include the Children’s Scripted Award for scripted programs, the Children’s Non-Scripted Award for factual content, and the Children’s Craft Team Award honoring behind-the-scenes teams. These categories will focus on television aimed at audiences aged 16 and under.
BAFTA also introduced a new Children and Family Film Award for the EE BAFTA Film Awards and a Family Award for the BAFTA Games Awards to further support children’s storytelling across different mediums.
The newly created categories were developed in collaboration with industry peers and the Young BAFTA Advisory Group to support children’s programming and the professionals working in the sector. This initiative aims to bring the best of screen arts to a wider audience.
BAFTA chair Sara Putt highlighted the importance of children’s stories in the cultural landscape and praised the creativity showcased in children’s screen content. Andrew Miller, chair of the Young BAFTA Advisory Group, emphasized the impact of children’s media in shaping diverse and educational storytelling.
