Olympic Gold Medal for Badminton Won by Huang Yaqiong Just Before Engagement
Huang Yaqiong got a special surprise with her gold medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Following her victory in badminton mixed doubles with partner Zheng Siwei in Paris on Aug. 2, Huang was proposed to by fellow teammate Liu Yuchen who got down on one knee.
“I cannot put into words how happy I am,” said Huang in an interview with Olympics.com. “Winning the gold medal is a validation of our journey.”
With tears of joy, Huang accepted the proposal in front of cheering fans at La Chapelle Arena, expressing her surprise at the unexpected moment.
“The engagement ring took me by surprise,” she shared. “I have been solely focused on training for the Olympics. This was completely unexpected.”
As for their plans post-engagement, Huang mentioned, “We haven’t thought about how we will celebrate yet.”
