Nicole Kidman seems to be taking on challenging roles lately! From playing the hypocritical matriarch in The Perfect Couple to dating a young movie star (Zac Efron) in A Family Affair, the actress is now returning to the big screen with A24’s latest erotic thriller Babygirl. The studio released the first trailer of the film on Tuesday, October 1st, showcasing a sensual side of Kidman.
In Babygirl, she portrays Rommy, a high-powered CEO who becomes intrigued by a young intern and embarks on a sensual relationship with him. However, their dynamic becomes complicated, especially for Rommy, who must keep her secret affair hidden from her husband and children. The official synopsis describes it as “A high-powered CEO puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern.”
The Oscar-winning actress stars alongside Harris Dickinson as the young intern, Sophie Wilde from Talk to Me, and Antonio Banderas as her husband. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Kidman expressed her admiration for female directors who are making a mark in the industry.
She mentioned Halina Reijn, the director of Babygirl, Lulu Wang from Expats, as well as Susanne Bier and Karyn Kusama as some of the talented women she enjoys working with. Kidman emphasized her commitment to supporting and embracing the vision of these directors.
During a press conference at Venice, the Big Little Lies actress shared that she did not feel exploited while filming intimate scenes for Babygirl. Kidman praised Halina Reijn for creating a safe and respectful environment on set and emphasized that the intimate scenes were integral to the storyline and required for the plot to progress.
Babygirl is set to premiere in theaters worldwide on December 25th.
