Ariana herself has discussed the adjustments she made to portray the character, revealing that she worked closely with an acting coach and a voice coach every day to prepare for the role of Glinda.
“I had to deconstruct everything about myself to show them I could embody this new character,” Ariana shared during an interview on The Zach Sang Show. “I had to let go of the pop star image, which everyone knows so well, because it’s difficult for people to see you as someone else when you’re so strongly associated with one identity.”
She added, “I had to completely transform my appearance for the audition – no makeup, hair down, I looked like I was 11 years old.”
