Anne Hathaway Relives Iconic Moment from Beloved Role as She Shows Support for Kamala Harris and Encourages Voting in America
Anne Hathaway has been busy bringing back her iconic 2000s classic roles, whether through sequels or at fundraiser events, to the delight of her fans. Recently, the Princess of Genovia officially endorsed presidential candidate Kamala Harris at an event held in New York City. Hathaway made her political stance clear, urging all Americans to vote and emphasizing the importance of participating in the democratic process.
During the event, she wowed the crowd by singing Queen’s legendary hit “Somebody to Love,” a song her character in Ella Enchanted famously performs, creating one of the most memorable scenes in the movie. In the 2004 film, Hathaway’s character, Ella, is under a spell that compels her to obey every command.
In a standout moment, Ella is commanded to sing the same song to a group of trolls in the movie. This time, it was Hathaway who chose to perform the song—on her own terms—while endorsing Kamala Harris.
Prior to her performance, Hathaway took a moment to encourage the audience to vote in the upcoming elections. She emphasized the importance of voting, even if one does not feel strongly about any particular candidate. She urged everyone to take responsibility for their vote, stating, “Maybe the ‘somebody’ you love is you. You’ve got to vote for yourself, America.”

Hathaway also discussed the power of emotions in an election season. In the intense atmosphere of an upcoming election, she highlighted the importance of understanding people’s emotions. “Especially in an election like this, when passions are understandably intense—because the stakes couldn’t be higher—it’s still really important to remember that you have to meet people where they are,” she said.
This is not the first time Hathaway has encouraged people to vote. Through videos, interviews, and Instagram posts, she has consistently urged her fans and followers to participate in their country’s elections.
In one interview where she revealed the contents of her bag, she asked if the audience was registered to vote. She also shared an ASMR video reminding everyone that the election was only 20 days away.
While there is no news of an Ella Enchanted sequel, Anne Hathaway confirmed that she will return to The Princess Diaries franchise. Recently, she announced her involvement in and production of a second sequel to The Princess Diaries titled The Princess Diaries 3, to be directed by Joy Ride director Adele Lim.
