Angelina Jolie Recalls Feeling ‘Terribly Nervous’ for Her Singing Debut in Maria, Thanks Her Sons for Their Support
Angelina Jolie amazed the Venice Film Festival with a preview of her newest film, Maria. At a press conference prior to the screening on August 29, the actress discussed her transformation into the operatic soprano Maria Callas. Jolie admitted feeling nervous but found support from friends and family to overcome it.
Jolie, aged 49, shared that she had been rehearsing for almost seven months and was shaking on her first singing session. She recalled her sons helping her block the door to prevent any interruptions from visitors.
She also mentioned director Pablo Larraín’s assistance, starting her in a small setting before progressing to La Scala. Jolie expressed admiration for Callas and the fear of living up to her legacy.
When asked about her favorite song and karaoke, Jolie chuckled, admitting she didn’t sing before the movie but might consider karaoke now.
Maria portrays the life of Maria Callas, focusing on her behind-the-scenes moments. Larraín praised the script, cast, crew, and Jolie’s dedication to the project.
The director expressed excitement about retelling Callas’s story with Jolie in the lead role.
Additionally, the film marks Jolie’s return to the big screen after Eternals. She described her joy in working on the superhero movie earlier this year.
Jolie shared her gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the creative process, remarking on the importance of spending time with her family.
The Venice Film Festival runs from August 28 to September 7.
