Prepare to shed tears as Andrew Garfield and Elmo discuss their experience with grief
Andrew Garfield and Elmo are about to make you cry.
The We Live in Time actor paid a special visit to Sesame Street, where he and Elmo took a few moments to chat through their feelings on grief, something Andrew has been very open about since the death of his mother Lynn Garfield from pancreatic cancer in 2019.
“Elmo’s going around Sesame Street, checking in on everybody,” the Muppet began. “So Elmo wants to know how Andrew’s doing.”
Andrew acknowledged he was “so happy to see Elmo” before adding, “I’m just thinking about my mum today. You know, she passed away not too long ago, and I just miss her. Miss her a lot.”
Elmo shared that he was so “sorry to hear that,” to which Andrew replied, “It’s okay. You don’t have to say sorry. It’s actually kind of okay to miss somebody.”
“That sadness, it’s kind of a gift,” the 41-year-old continued. “It’s kind of a lovely thing to feel, in a way, because it means you really loved somebody when you miss them.”
