Ananya Panday lauds Janhvi Kapoor for Devara: Part 1 with Jr. NTR, dismisses criticism of commercial cinema as ‘easy’
Janhvi Kapoor has recently made her big Telugu debut in the film Devara: Part 1, opposite Jr. NTR, after starring in movies like Ulajh, Mili, and Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. Ananya Panday, Janhvi’s BFF, praised her performance in the film amid criticism. Ananya discussed the misconception that commercial cinema is easy.
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Ananya Panday talked about the “3 scenes and 3 songs” strategy often imposed on young actresses in Indian cinema. She defended Janhvi Kapoor’s hard work in Devara: Part 1 by highlighting the art of performing in commercial films.
“People think that commercial cinema is easy, but it requires a certain skill to perform in a certain way,” Ananya said. She praised Janhvi’s performance in the song Daavudi from JR. NTR’s film, calling her expressions “great” and her energy “outstanding.”
Ananya concluded by acknowledging that it is a challenging job. This comes after some audience members expressed disappointment over Janhvi’s brief role in Devara: Part 1.
Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara: Part 1 was released in theaters on September 27, 2024, and starred Jr. NTR in dual roles as Devara and his son, Varadha. Janhvi Kapoor played Varadha’s love interest, Thangam, in the film which also featured Saif Ali Khan, Zarina Wahab, and others.
Janhvi Kapoor made her acting debut in 2018 with the film Dhadak and has since become one of the most promising actresses in Bollywood. Her upcoming projects include Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, where she will star alongside Varun Dhawan.
Meanwhile, Ananya Panday is enjoying the success of her recent film CTRL and her OTT debut in Call Me Bae.
