Grace VanderWaal, former America’s Got Talent contestant, shares uncommon life update
Grace VanderWaal is comfortable with embracing her imperfections. Nearly eight years after winning America’s Got Talent, the singer surprised TikToker David Carmi by appearing in one of his Confidence Heist videos in New York City, where he asks locals about their confidence secrets.
“Oh my god, you’re the TikTok guy!” she exclaimed in an Aug. 14 video. “My name is Grace VanderWaal.”
Grace revealed that her key to looking confident is actually “having somewhere to go,” and she credited her upbringing in the spotlight for pushing her out of her comfort zone.
“It threw me into scrutiny,” explained Grace, who won America’s Got Talent in 2016 at just 12 years old. “And just kind of forced me to sink or swim.”
Despite sounding “corny,” the ukulele player advised viewers to “accept who you are” and embrace “your strengths” to boost their confidence.
