Cause of Death for Former American Idol Contestant Mandisa Revealed
New information has emerged surrounding the passing of Mandisa.
Following the discovery of the former American Idol contestant (real name Mandisa Lynn Hundley) at her home on April 18 at the age of 47, authorities have determined the cause of her death.
An autopsy obtained by People revealed that Mandisa passed away due to complications of class III obesity.
Class III obesity is defined as “a complex chronic disease in which a person has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health conditions,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The autopsy report also indicated that she was discovered by friends on April 18 and had not been seen alive for approximately three weeks prior. The cause of death was listed as natural.
E! News has reached out to the coroner for further details but has not received a response.
Mandisa’s spokesperson announced her passing on April 19, stating to E! News, “We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found deceased in her home.”
