Kelly Ripa talks about eloping with Mark Consuelos
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married for almost thirty years. They eloped in Las Vegas in 1996. In a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, they revealed that none of their parents were pleased with their decision to elope.
“None of our parents liked the fact that we eloped,” she revealed. Mark added that their parents hated the fact that they did. Kelly jokingly told the audience, “Spoiler alert: if you’re planning on eloping, your parents will hate it.”
Mark shared how, a decade later, their parents finally accepted their decision to elope. It was a heartwarming moment when their parents realized the significant amount of money they had saved by avoiding a lavish wedding.
Kelly joked about how her parents would have “arranged” her and Mark if they could. “Really? My parents definitely would have wanted you,” Mark added. He later asked Kelly if her father would have approved of him. Kelly said that her father would have 100% liked Mark.
Kelly also mentioned that the divorce rate for arranged marriages is only 4%, compared to the national divorce rate of 50%. She concluded by saying that parents know “what they’re talking about.”

Kelly and Mark discussed how they do not interfere in their kids’ love lives. Kelly explained that expressing dislike for a child’s partner makes them want to “dig in,” while expressing approval makes them question why their parents like them. This is why they avoid commenting on their children’s dating choices.
Mark pointed out that parental comments can influence their children’s choice of partner. Kelly and Mark have three children together named Michael, Lola, and Joaquin.
