Upcoming 2024 Films: Deadpool 3, Joker 2, and Saw XI.
Hollywood entered 2024 on a rocky note, following the writers’ and actors’ strikes. Early releases like Mean Girls and Madame Web did little to boost the box office. However, in March, Dune: Part Two emerged as a ray of hope for theater owners, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far.
As June approaches, big-name franchise films are set to premiere, with more to come later in the year. From Bad Boys 4 to Joker 2, Venom 3, Deadpool 3, and Saw XI, it seems that 2024 will be the year of sequels.
Bad Boys 4
Continuing the three-decade-old franchise, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will make their return in Bad Boys 4, scheduled to premiere on June 5, 2024. This sequel follows the success of the 2020 film, Bad Boys For Life, which was the highest-grossing film of the year before the pandemic disrupted things.
Bad Boys 4 marks Smith’s first blockbuster comeback since the Oscars slap controversy of 2022. The duo will reprise their roles as Miami cops on a mission to clear their late senior Captain Conrad’s name, who was wrongly framed with a drug cartel.
Inside Out 2
A sequel to the 2015 animated hit, Inside Out 2 is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2024. The film will see the return of the emotions in Riley’s head for another adventure, with the addition of four new emotions as Riley navigates her teenage years.
The original film was a massive success nearly a decade ago, grossing $90 million and marking the biggest original box office debut in history.
Twisters
Twisters, starring Glen Powell, is a throwback sequel to the 1996 action film of the same name. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the film aims to revive the genre of climate-panic and natural disasters with a group of storm-chasers risking their lives to test a weather alert system.
Deadpool 3
The highly anticipated Marvel movie, Deadpool 3, is gearing up for its release on July 26, 2024. This R-rated installment will feature a thrilling team-up between Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine/Logan.
Alien: Romulus
Director Fede Alvarez is working on reviving the classic Alien film series with Alien: Romulus, set to premiere on August 16, 2024. The film will follow in the footsteps of Ridley Scott and James Cameron’s franchise sequels.
Transformers One
Transformers One will explore the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, delving into the events that led to their fallout and rivalry in the Transformers universe. Paramount is working on an animated Transformers movie set to release on September 13, 2024.
Saw XI
Saw XI is set to premiere on September 27, 2024, continuing the tradition of this slasher/horror film series. Following the success of Saw X, Lionsgate decided to continue the franchise with another sequel.
Venom 3
Tom Hardy will return as Eddie Brock for one last time in Venom 3, the final installment of Sony’s Spider-Verse. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 25, 2024, promising a final showdown between Spider-Man and Venom.
Joker: Folie à Deux
Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix returns as Joker in Joker: Folie à Deux, set to premiere on October 4. This DC film aims to follow up the success of the first Joker film, with Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role.
There are rumors about the sequel being a musical and featuring Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, directed by Todd Phillips.
