Al Pacino Reflects on Near Death Experience During COVID Pandemic: Says He Lost Pulse
Al Pacino shared a harrowing experience of battling a severe COVID infection during the pandemic, which almost led to his death. In a conversation with The New York Times, the legendary actor recounted the chaotic scene as he lay in his living room without a pulse.
According to the Hollywood icon, medical professionals worked tirelessly to revive him while his family stood by his side. Pacino disclosed that he had received steroids in 2020 after testing positive for the virus, and the decrease in his heart rate was a side effect of the medication.
Reflecting on the near-death encounter, Pacino expressed, “It was so—you’re here, you’re not. I thought, Wow, you don’t even have your memories. You have nothing. Strange porridge.”
Describing the sudden turn of events, he remembered feeling unwell and dehydrated before losing consciousness. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at his home, tending to him in a life-threatening situation.

Recalling the experience, Pacino mentioned not experiencing any supernatural visions and quoted Shakespeare’s Hamlet to delve into the concept of mortality.
