Exploring the Tragic Downfall of Aaron Hernandez in New American Sports Story Trailer
Aaron Hernandez‘s story is coming to the screen.
The latest trailer for FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez has been unveiled. The 10-episode docuseries, set to premiere on Sept. 17, will chronicle the ex-NFL player’s career, his shocking conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd, and his death in 2017.
In the teaser released on Aug. 14, Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Josh Andrés Rivera takes on the role of Aaron through a series of clips, showcasing his dual life as a celebrated tight end for the New England Patriots and his struggles with inner demons behind closed doors.
“You don’t know the thoughts that plague me,” Josh narrates as Aaron in the trailer. “It’s like a demon. What if God created me this way?”
Aaron, who played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2012, was taken into custody during the NFL offseason in 2013 and was later convicted of Odin’s murder in 2015 (prompting his immediate release from the Patriots after his 2013 arrest). Aaron and Odin had become acquainted through their significant others, with Aaron’s then-fiancée Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez being the sister of Odin’s girlfriend, Shaneah Jenkins, and the two men were friends prior to the tragic event.
