Michael Strahan Wants to Replace “Grandpa” Title With This Unique Name

Michael Strahan Aims to Adopt a Fresh Title in Place of “Grandpa”

Michael Strahan is thrilled about being a grandfather, although he prefers not to be referred to as one.

The Good Morning America co-anchor, who recently became a grandfather when his daughter Tanita Strahan welcomed baby boy Onyx on Sept. 22, shared his thoughts on why he’s hesitant to embrace the traditional title.

During an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Sept. 23, the 52-year-old expressed, “It’s the most amazing feeling ‘cause I don’t feel old enough. Everyone’s like, ‘What is he gonna call you?’ I don’t know. I almost want to do a survey.”

When Fallon suggested the nickname “Papa,” Strahan humorously proposed “Gap-pa,” inspired by his iconic gap-toothed smile.

While he navigates the realm of grandparent names, Strahan is cherishing this new phase with his family.

“I’m so happy for my daughter Tanita and Calenta [Mincey], her boyfriend,” the former NFL star beamed, praising baby Onyx as a “great addition to the family.”
