Ayo Edebiri Raves About Reba McEntire’s Presence at 76th Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet; Unpacking the Viral Moment
Ayo Edebiri was full of excitement and energy on the red carpet of the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. The prestigious event took place on September 15, 2024, and saw many big names in attendance, including Reba McEntire, whom The Bear star bumped into.
Before the awards ceremony, the highly acclaimed star encountered the globally beloved country music icon. Speaking to E! News host Laverne Cox, the actress and comedian shared her experience, expressing that she was “absolutely freaked out” and proud of herself for not singing the entire theme song of McEntire’s famous track, I’m A Survivor, which was also the theme song of Edebiri’s sitcom.
While admiring McEntire, Edebiri couldn’t help but sing the lyrics, “A single mom that works too hard, loves her kids and never stops! Hey, I’m a survivor, okay?”
Ayo Edebiri was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The Bear at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards this year. Other nominees included Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building, Maya Rudolph for Loot, and Kristen Wiig for Palm Royale, with Jean Smart winning for Hacks.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Richard “Richie” Jerimovich in The Bear, won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, while Lionel Boyce was nominated in the same category. Jeremy Allen White won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for The Bear, and Liza Colón-Zayas won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
The series was also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, with Christopher Storer & Joanna Calo working on the episode titled Fishes. Storer won Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the same episode, competing against Ramy Youssef for an episode titled Honeydew.
Reba McEntire is currently a coach on NBC’s The Voice and is set to return to scripted TV with the premiere of Happy’s Place on October 18, 2024.
