What Additional Information Has Been Provided Regarding Artem Chigvintsev’s Arrest?
According to Wofford’s statement to NBC News, Chigvintsev was arrested in Yountville, Calif. However, the specific location was not disclosed to respect the privacy request of the alleged victim.
Due to the victim’s request, the Sheriff’s office is withholding information such as the victim’s identity, gender, age, and their relationship with Chigvintsev. Nonetheless, Wofford did comment on the arrest itself.
He explained, “When someone is facing charges of felony domestic violence, it usually indicates there is visible injury or a credible eyewitness. Our deputies felt it was appropriate to arrest him on felony charges.” He added, “While this could change with new evidence, at the time of the arrest, the deputies believed it warranted felony charges rather than misdemeanor.”
Wofford also touched on the reasons why victims may choose to withhold personal information in such cases.
He stated, “Some victims may not feel comfortable disclosing all details when the suspect is apprehended. They may feel ashamed, threatened, or worry about the impact on their family. It is crucial to provide victims with time and support to help them understand that we are here to assist.”
