During the MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion on September 11, Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey and Lil Nas X presented Tyla with the Best Afrobeat award for her song “Water.”
While accepting her Moon Person Award, Tyla, also known as Tyla Laura Seethal, struggled to hold up the statue and joked about her lack of strength.
She then turned to Halle and Lil Nas X for help before passing the trophy to the “Old Town Road” singer.
Some viewers speculated about the interaction, suggesting Tyla’s choice was a deliberate snub towards Halle, while others thought Halle’s actions were disrespectful toward the singer.
