Colin Farrell Discusses Challenges of Wearing Prosthetics for The Penguin: ‘I Was Determined to See It Through’
Colin Farrell’s portrayal of The Penguin in the HBO series has been a challenging journey for the actor. Despite enjoying playing Oswald Cobblepot, Farrell struggled with the long hours spent in prosthetics during filming.
In an interview with Total Film, Farrell discussed the physical and mental strain of the prosthetics process. He expressed frustration with the weight and discomfort of the prosthetic face he had to wear, despite creatively enjoying the role.
Farrell praised the creative team behind the series, including showrunner Lauren LeFranc and prosthetics artist Mike Marino. He acknowledged the positive challenges of the role but admitted to feeling worn out by the makeup process.
While grateful for the opportunity to play The Penguin, Farrell expressed doubts about returning to the role due to the makeup challenges. He mentioned feeling privileged to be part of the character’s lineage but admitted to not wanting to wear the prosthetics again.
Regarding a potential return as The Penguin for another season or movie, Farrell expressed openness but stated the need for a break to recover from the exhausting makeup process of the first season.
The series, set to air on HBO from September 19, 2024, to November 10, 2024, focuses on the origin story of Oz Cobblepot and his rise in the Gotham criminal underworld. Alongside Farrell, Cristin Milioti and Rhenzy Feliz star in the show.
