IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack: Vijay Varma praises series’ success with ‘BOX OFFICE TSUNAMI’; applauds Anubhav Sinha for ‘aapko SUPERHIT hua hai’
Vijay Varma was recently featured in Anubhav Sinha’s drama series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. The series is based on the real-life incident of Indian Airlines flight IC 814’s hijack in 1999 during its journey from Kathmandu to Delhi. In the series, the actor plays the role of pilot Captain Sharan Dev, inspired by the brave Captain Devi Sharan who was known for his actions during the hijacking. Following the success of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Vijay took to social media to compare its popularity to a ‘box-office Tsunami’ and congratulated director Anubhav Sinha for the ‘superhit’ series.
On September 9, Vijay Varma posted a picture on Instagram showcasing his look from IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. In the photo, he is dressed smartly as a pilot standing in front of a plane. He sports a black uniform with yellow stripes on cuffs and buttons, and is wearing sunglasses.
The post also highlights IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack reaching the top spot for must-watch streaming originals in India. Vijay shared a lengthy note with his fans celebrating the success of the show.
In his caption, Vijay described the series as a “box-office Tsunami, thunderstorm, and avalanche”, comparing its success to extreme natural phenomena. He referred to IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack as a “world-class show” and called it the “sweetest drizzle”. He thanked the audience for their support and congratulated Anubhav Sinha for the series’ success.
“If this was a theatrical you’d hear words like BOXOFFICE TSUNAMI, THUNDERSTORM, and AVALANCHE to describe the success. But since it’s just a world-class show, I’d like to call it The Sweetest Drizzle. Thank you to our lovely audience,” Vijay wrote, congratulating Sinha and calling the series “superhit”.

Director Anubhav Sinha responded in the comments, saying “Aur aapko zindabad hua hai,” while Rajkummar Rao also left a comment praising Vijay’s performance. Rajkummar’s wife, Patralekhaa, also featured as an air hostess in the series.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack premiered on August 29 and also starred Manoj Pahwa, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, and Patralekhaa.
