The series is based on the real-life incident of Indian Airlines flight IC 814’s hijack in 1999 during its journey from Kathmandu to Delhi. In the series, the actor plays the role of pilot Captain Sharan Dev, inspired by the brave Captain Devi Sharan who was known for his actions during the hijacking. Following the success of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Vijay took to social media to compare its popularity to a ‘box-office Tsunami’ and congratulated director Anubhav Sinha for the ‘superhit’ series.
