Janelle, Mother of Actress Nicole Kidman, Passes Away as Announced by Daughter
Nicole Kidman is grieving the passing of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman.
The actress revealed the news of her mother’s passing at the age of 84 in a statement read by Halina Rejn at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 6 while accepting an award on Nicole’s behalf.
“Today, I arrived in Venice to learn shortly after, that my beautiful, courageous mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed,” Nicole’s statement said. “I am in shock and need to be with my family.”
The statement continued, “But this award is dedicated to her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. I am incredibly grateful that I am able to mention her name to all of you through Halina. The intersection of life and art is devastating, and my heart is shattered.”
The cause of Janelle’s passing was not disclosed.
Nicole’s mother, who worked as a nursing instructor, had been facing health challenges in recent years. In 2022, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oscar winner shared that she had returned to her family’s native Australia to be by her mother’s side.
