Florence Pugh Discusses Going Bald for Andrew Garfield’s Film “We Live in Time”: ‘I Just Stopped Him’
Florence Pugh has discussed the experience of shaving her head for her role in John Crowley’s We Live in Time. The romantic drama by Nick Payne stars Pugh and Andrew Garfield, portraying a love story that spans decades. In the film, Pugh’s character Almut faces a cancer diagnosis and undergoes treatment, prompting Pugh to go bald for the role, garnering attention from the media.
After arriving at the Met Gala with a shaved head, Pugh addressed rumors in an interview with Vanity Fair, clarifying that she did not do it to reclaim her identity as rumored online.
Pugh emphasized the importance of authentically portraying her character’s journey, opting to shave her head instead of using wigs. She believed that committing to the physical transformation was crucial for such a story, stating, “no one can play a character like this in a movie like this and not do the thing that is needed to be done.”
The film follows the romance between Almut, a London chef, and Tobias, an employee of Weetabix, as they fall in love after a car accident. Their love story unfolds in a non-linear fashion, spanning different points in time throughout their relationship.
We Live in Time, distributed by A24 and starring Florence Pugh, Andrew Garfield, and Grace Delaney, is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 6, 2024, with a theatrical release on October 11.
