Grier Henchy Honors Mom Brooke Shields by Wearing Her 1997 Wedding Dress to High School Graduation – Hollywood Life
Brooke Shields has always shared her extensive closet with her daughters, so when it was time for her daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy, to graduate from high school, she decided to wear a special dress from her mom’s collection, who once said, “Nothing is off limits.”
“Her graduation dress was my first wedding dress,” Shields shared about the gown she wore when she married tennis star Andre Agassi in 1997.
Even though their marriage did not last, Shields, who described her first husband as “a good guy,” felt that wearing the dress was a significant full-circle moment that honored something important in her life. She added, “I think that’s healthy.”
Shields originally wore the corseted ivory satin gown when she married the tennis player. Grier, now 18 years old and starting her first year at Wake Forest University, made some adjustments to personalize the dress.
“We had to make it tighter and sleeker by adjusting the boning. We removed the poofiness and made it strapless,” Grier explained.
The 59-year-old actress commented, “She looked amazing in it. It’s an honor when they want to wear your things. Usually, they don’t think I’m cool.”
During an interview with Oprah Winfrey for Oprah Daily’s “The Life You Want” class, Shields mentioned that one of her daughters was shocked by the amount of dust in her closet. The daughter jokingly threatened to wear the clothes if Shields didn’t start wearing them herself.
In addition to the wedding gown, Grier also wore a black Richard Tyler gown to the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute event, a dress that Shields had worn to a ball in 2006 when Grier was an infant. She also dazzled in one of her mom’s gold dresses earlier in the year.
