Nani reveals how Amitabh Bachchan and his film Agneepath motivated him to pursue directing
Nani, known as Natural Star Nani by his fans, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Saripodhaa Sanivaaram (Surya’s Saturday in Hindi). Similar to his recent films, Nani is making a sincere effort to connect with the Hindi audience. He recently held an exclusive Masterclass with Pinkvilla to discuss his upcoming action-drama film and his love for cinema in general.
Nani Reveals Amitabh Bachchan’s Agneepath Inspired His Desire to Direct
During the Masterclass hosted by Himesh Mankad, Nani shared why he initially aspired to be a film director and what motivated him. The Hi Nanna actor mentioned, “Different directors inspired me at different times. Of course, my biggest inspiration is (Amitabh) Bachchan sir. Agneepath was a major reason why I wanted to direct a film. Even though the film did not do well upon release, it redefined heroism for me. It showed how an actor can embody a role and how the traditional formula can be twisted to create a captivating story.”
Nani Talks About the First Scene He Envisioned Directing
Nani also discussed the first scene in the film he wanted to direct and its connection to Agneepath. He shared, “In the first script I ever wrote as an assistant director, the opening sequence takes place outside a tea shop with a TV showing the Agneepath scene. I wanted to start my directorial career with a homage to this iconic moment. So, the influence is very strong.”

Nani couldn’t stop praising Amitabh Bachchan during the conversation. He expressed his admiration for Bachchan as a true fan, stating, “The composure and performances delivered by Bachchan sir each time are admirable. Whether it’s an average film, a flop, or a blockbuster, you know that he adds immense value to it. His power lies in delivering impactful performances without extravagant actions.”
